Aromatherapy is the ancient science of healing, relaxing and energizing by the use of pure essential oils that have been extracted from herbs, flowers, fruits and trees. The Aromatherapist at the Westoe Practice, South Shields will choose specific essential oils for their own therapeutic characteristics and actions. When essential oils are inhaled, messages are transmited to the limbic system and affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system.

A Typical session
An initial Aromatherapy session at the Westoe Practice, South Shields will take approximately 1 hr 45 mins. This will involve an in depth consultation taking time to understand any symptoms, medical history and lifestyle. The Aromatherapist will then decide which essential oils are most suited to your individual needs and make up a blend mixed with massage oil or lotion. Typically the massage will take 1 hr 30 mins. On subsequent appointments you will be given the choice of a full body or back massage. An Aromatherapy back massage will take between 30 and 45 mins and includes the neck and shoulders. The subtle aroma of the essential oils fills the air around you during the massage.
Two or three treatments are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief from many conditions, although further treatments may sometimes be required. Clients are encouraged to return occasionally for maintenance treatments.
