I am a qualified Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor with over 10 years’ experience and have been offering psychological services to young people and adults in schools and in community and voluntary services as well as supporting people through employee assistance programmes and in private practice.
I have extensive experience in working with clients facing a variety of psychological concerns, ranging in severity and intensity. I help people suffering from different emotional challenges, including depression, anxiety, obsessive and compulsive disorder, phobias, trauma, eating disorders, relationship and personality difficulties, bereavement, self-harming behaviours, domestic violence, sexual abuse, work related issues, bullying, emotional abuse and neglect in their lives.
My therapeutic approach integrates both Counselling and Psychotherapy, providing a space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Counselling tends to focus on more specific problems whereas Psychotherapy can address deeper underlying issues. I also draw on many different models including:
- Person-Centred Therapy - facilitates the personal growth and relationships of an individual by allowing them to explore and utilise their own strengths and personal identity;
- Transactional Analysis - analysing why we think, feel and behave in the way we do which is very effective in helping individuals understand their problems and help make lasting life changes;
- Mindfulness - the ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us;
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - focuses on how our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect our feelings and behaviour, and teaches us coping skills for dealing with different problems.
The focus of my work will be to explore the concerns you have towards your life. We will work collaboratively, and I will help you gain a better understanding of yourself, and how you can choose to live more fully and with greater contentment. I will help you to understand your difficulties, build on strengths and develop coping strategies to overcome difficulties and build resilience.
